May 2014 meeting summary

This was our second meeting at the new location, Grumpy's Roseville, and once again almost everyone showed up! Although we still haven't seen anyone from Davis, which is kind of a bummer because we totally moved here to be close to them*.

Minutes of the May 7, 2014 meeting

Following the meeting, which started and ended on time, Tom Modec of Kaba Access presented an overview of the E-Plex Wireless Access Control System.

Summary and Tom's contact info below the break - click "Read More"

Kaba E-Plex locks are standalone, battery operated electronic locks.  They can be operated via pushbutton code and/or a variety of proximity credentials, they feature manual key override and they are compatible with tons of other manufacturers' hardware.

The E-Plex locks feature the LectroBolt technology - which has been around for years now, but it still seems super fantastic - no wiring to fish through the prep, even easier than a quick-connect plug - the wiring is all in the throughbolt.

But the main focus of the presentation was how the E-Plex locks can be networked wirelessly

Wireless networking plus wireless LectroBolt technology means literally, no wires. Delightful!

This system can be small or huge:
  • 100 locks without a network and up to 10,000 via a combination of networked gateways/routers.
  • Up to 3000 users and an ample selection of proximity credentials.
  • Audit trails up to 30,000 events: reports, charts, graphs. Metrics.
And it can be accessed remotely on line (depending on the software and network configuration) so you can change one lock, change one credential, or lock down an entire facility - remotely.  From your smartphone.

The future is here: Tom, we can't thank you enough for catching us up.  Now where's my jet pack?

But seriously - this was a super technical presentation with so much information.  The links above take you straight to Kaba's website where you can learn a lot more about the vast capabilities of this product line and you should check it out.

Thanks again to Tom Modec for a great presentation.

*Not true!  We moved because of construction.  But we're not above soliciting attendance by all reasonable means.
